Getting there

We are booking buses to take our guests from San Diego Airport to La Fonda.

One bus will leave at noon Thursday, April 19 and another will head down Friday, April 20 at noon. Both buses will return Sunday, leaving La Fonda midday and likely arriving back at the airport around 3 p.m.

Because of border traffic, we don't know exactly what time the Sunday buses will arrive at San Diego Airport/ Therefore, we recommend that our guests book evening flights on Sunday.

A roundtrip seat will cost around $30. To reserve a seat (or seats), please email Marisa at marisa.lagos@gmail.com and say whether you want to come on Thursday or Friday.

If you're driving:

You must buy Mexican car insurance BEFORE you cross the border, as your regular insurance will not cover you in Mexico. It's pretty cheap -- about $10 a day. There are two drive-through shops right off Interstate 5, about a mile before the border.

To get there, take I-5 south and exit 1B for Via de San Ysidro. Take a right off the off-ramp. You will see the insurance shops in front of you (Instant Mexico Auto Insurance or Mex-Insur Inc).

Or, you can buy Mexican insurance online here.

To get to La Fonda: Get back on the I-5 south and cross the border. Once you are in Mexico, get into the right lane and follow the signs to the Ensenada/Rosarito Toll Road.

You will drive along the border fence for a bit, then after coming down a big hill, merge to the right to stay on the Rosarito Toll Road. Stay on the toll road until you get to K.59.5, the La Fonda/La Mision exit. Take a left off the off-ramp, and La Fonda will be straight ahead. The address is
KM 59.5 Carretera Tijuana – Ensenada, La Mision, Baja California, Mexico.

There will be two toll booths on the way, about $2 each; they take both US dollars and Mexican pesos.
